Antique Carved Wood Overmantel Mirror with Floral Urn Motifs and Scrolled Crest.
This antique overmantel mirror features an ornately carved wooden frame with a shaped, serpentine silhouette and richly detailed decorative elements. The crest rail is adorned with a central shell motif flanked by scrolling acanthus-style carvings and foliate detailing, creating a balanced and symmetrical composition.
The frame is divided by two vertical carved panels, each depicting a classical urn overflowing with flowers and foliage in relief. Traces of original painted and gilt accents remain within the carved floral elements, now exhibiting age-appropriate crackling and surface wear consistent with the mirror's age. The warm brown finish highlights the depth of the carvings and molded contours. The mirror plate appears to be original and shows visible silvering wear and spotting throughout, adding to its antique character. A small area of loss is present along the lower edge of the glass (see photos). The frame shows surface wear, finish variation, and minor losses consistent with age and use.
With its substantial scale and decorative crest, this piece is well suited for use as an overmantel, hallway statement mirror, or focal point above a sideboard or console. A classic example of late 19th to early 20th century decorative wall mirror design.Condition: Antique condition with age-appropriate wear to frame and glass, including crackled finish, minor paint loss, spotting to mirror plate, and a small chip/loss to lower edge of glass.
