This finely crafted 19th century likely Dutch snuff box is a richly detailed example of utilitarian folk art, made of brass and copper toned materials with beautifully executed hand-engraving on all sides. The lid features an etched tavern scene depicting three seated men drinking beneath a garland of pipes, likely symbolizing camaraderie or leisure, all framed by intricate scrollwork and floral embellishments. The bottom bears the traditional Dutch phrase “ T is Niet Anders" (translated as "It is what it is"), a common expression of resigned acceptance in Dutch culture.
